Purpose of the Role
To manage client portfolio and provide advice and planning on matters such as residence and domicile, trusts (UK and overseas) and capital taxes in support of the Tax Director / Tax Partner. To work on complicated projects with partners and lead client relationships from time to time. Review of complicated tax returns prepared by junior staff, providing technical support to them.
Main Responsibilities
- Manage portfolio of clients, meeting their requirements and maximising fee income
- Manage the production of client’s personal tax computations.
- Plan, control, and review work carried out be team members to ensure work is completed within timeframes and budget.
- Respond to tax queries from Partners/Directors/Managers.
- Carry out consultancy work when required.
- Attend client meetings where appropriate.
- Design and implement standard letters/systems to improve the efficiency of the Tax Department.
- Spot opportunities for relevant advisory work with existing clients.
- Generate new leads and win new tax advisory work.
- Provide tax advisory services on client portfolios, maximising fee earning opportunities.
- Plan, control and review work carried out by team members to ensure work is completed within timeframes and budget.
- Respond to tax queries from Partners & Directors.
- Billing.
- Carry out advisory work.
- Liaise between Partners, tax department and across service lines (where appropriate).
- Attend client meetings and presentations (where appropriate).
- Correspondence with clients and HMRC.
- Assist in completing appraisals for all allocated members of staff ensuring that these are completed.
- February and August to enable staff to be developed and in turn enhance their effectiveness.
- Allocate and review jobs / tasks.
- Ensure junior team members receive training relevant to their level of ability.
- Actively promote regular use of the Tax section on the Intranet.
- Actively involve junior staff in advisory work.
Qualification and Skills
- ACA/CTA qualified.
- Varied, practical and technical tax knowledge.
- Able to train junior members of staff.
- IT packages (Excel, tax software, Word).
- Communication skills.
- Organisational skills.
- Commercial awareness / client focus.
- Problem solving and decision making.
- Ability to work well under pressure.
- Be positive and committed to MHA in dealings with both clients and staff.
