Purpose of the role
To manage own portfolio of clients, maximising fee income; to support the Tax Directors & Partners in managing and controlling the activities and performance of the Tax department.
The Human Capital Advisory (HCA) team provides client solutions in respect of UK employment taxes; employer share related schemes; HR & Immigration services; and global mobility / expatriate tax aspects. The global mobility / expatriate tax teamwork with a wide range of small to medium size businesses, as well as with private individuals, supporting them with all aspects of advisory and compliance issues. You will be working alongside colleagues from Big4 backgrounds. You will be given autonomy to use your skills and experience but always with the support of the team around you. Duties
Advisory
- Assignment planning/structuring and ad-hoc global mobility advice covering both employee and employer issues
- Dealing with HMRC disclosures and tax return enquiries
- Assist in delivering the HCA and wider firm tax strategy
- Spot opportunities with existing clients
- Generate new leads and win new tax advisory work
- Assist with global proposals and HCA marketing activity
Portfolio management
- Identify and deliver tax advisory services on client portfolios, maximising fee earning opportunities
- Manage and review the production of personal tax returns and computations
- Plan, control and review work carried out by team members to ensure work is completed within timeframes and budget
- Respond to tax queries from Partners and Directors
- Responsibility for client billing and financial management
- Coordinate international client work
- Build strong working relationships across the UK firm and international network
- Liaise between Partners, tax teams and audit department teams
- Attend client meetings and presentations
- Correspondence with clients, HMRC and external agencies
Team Development
- Assist in the career management and appraisal process for junior team members
- Allocate and review jobs / tasks
- Ensure junior colleagues receive training relevant to their level of ability
- Actively promote regular use of the Tax and HCA sections on the Intranet
- Actively help to recruit and develop junior team members
Experience/Qualifications required
- CTA, ATT or ACA qualified or proven relevant work experience (minimum one year post qualification experience or three years’ relevant work experience) from a well-respected tax practice or boutique
- Demonstrable and current technical tax knowledge
- Proven compliance and advisory experience
- General knowledge and understanding of audit and accountancy issues
- Excel, Tax Software and Word skills
- Commercial awareness / client focus / client relationship skills
- People management skills, coaching and development of others
